AHMEDABAD: The Muslim community in the city celebrated Eid-e-Milad-un Nabi on Saturday. The day marks the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad and usually begins with a morning prayer in most families. Processions were taken out in various parts of the city in the afternoon, including Jamalpur, Shahpur and Dariyapur.
During these processions, community members remember the birth, life and the message of the Prophet.
Many devout observe a fast on this day. “The day usually begins with the morning prayer and later, we participate in processions; there are celebration programmes and activities for children,” said Mushir Kalimi, a businessman. “Remembering Prophet Muhammad, we also offer food to the poor and needy.” Biryani, curries, and sweets are usually prepared on this day. It is a day to meet and greet loved ones.
