RAJKOT: The stage is set for peaceful holding of the SSC and HSC examinations beginning on Monday. As many as 1,85,375 students will appear for SSC examination while 77,840 students will sit for HSC from Saurashtra and Kutch.

besides this, checking squads have also been set up to curb the menace of copying. with the postponement of the nagarpalika elections, the revenue staff have also been pressed into service and would form part of the checking flying squads, district education officer v b bhesdadiya told tnn on saturday. special control rooms have also been set up in the districts. as many as 75 flying squads have been formed to check malpractice during exams. special police force will be deployed at the 10 examination centres, believed to be sensitive, in the region. plans are afoot to conduct videography of such sensitive centres. meanwhile, students are baffled by the choice offered by the state government to sit for examinations in may. most of the students feel that students opting for such alternate arrangement would be favoured. this is the second year in succession that the education department had offered students to sit in alternate examinations. last year, the students were allowed to appear in alternate examinations due to the earthquake. as a result of this alternate examination scheme, the studious students are also in two minds as to whether to opt for the examinations beginning on monday or to appear in may. while 17,292 students will appear for the ssc examination from amreli, 7,477 will take their hsc (science stream) exams. as many as 14,291 will take their ssc exams from kutch while 4,597 will appear for hsc exams. in jamnagar, 22,008 for ssc while 6,309 for hsc, in junagadh - 33,762 for ssc and 13,317 for hsc, in bhavnagar - 24,074 for ssc and 8,635 for hsc, in surendranagar - 15,783 students will appear for ssc while 4,852 for hsc (science stream) exams. rajkot has the highest number of students appearing for ssc examination with 49,606 while 17,188 students will take their hsc (general stream) exams and 4,512 students will appear for hsc (science stream) exams. the lowest number appearing for ssc examination is from porbander district with 7,559 students. as many as 1,707 students will appear for hsc (general stream) while 348 students will sit for hsc (science stream) exams.
