AHMEDABAD: To resolve citizen complaints about streetlights more efficiently and to monitor the functioning of streetlights in the city in real time, the civic body will install a remote controller system for LED streetlights.
The civic body will set up a Smart Streetlight Management Dashboard too. The controller system and the dashboard will enable the civic body’s streetlight department to control streetlights remotely, check and control the on and off timings as well as dim or increase power depending on the ambient conditions.

The system will also enable citizens to lodge complaints on faulty streetlights through a mobile app or a dedicated web page. The Smart City Ahmedabad Development Ltd (SCADL), a special purpose vehicle of the AMC, has already installed a remote controller system for 31,000 LED streetlights in the city.
“In the Phase 2 of the smart streetlights project, we will set up the controller system for the remaining LED streetlights,” an AMC official said. “Apart from installing controllers, we will set up a dashboard for mobile phones and web to monitor the status of streetlights.”
The official added: “Under the Smart City initiative, 25,000 streetlights across the city and 6,000 in BRTS lanes have been upgraded as smart streetlights.” The official added: “With the external controller, lights can be turned on or off or dimmed.”
The second phase development will include the augmentation and upgrade of existing LED streetlights to Smart LED streetlights by adding the controller system.
“The dashboard will be a part of the city’s Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC),” the official said. “Two mobile apps will be developed: one for the civic body officials and the other for citizens.”
