bars weighing around 8 kg worth Rs 2.50 crore from their possession on the

Ahmedabad-Vadodara

expressway.

Officers of Ahmedabad unit of DRI intercepted a car at the expressway toll plaza on Wednesday and searched the vehicle. An official statement issued by the DRI said, while searching the two occupants of the car Krunal Soni and Nalin Soni, four gold bars weighing 1 kg each were recovered from them.

When the DRI officers asked them to produce bills of purchase, invoices or entry numbers for the gold bars but they were unable to comply. The team then seized the gold bars under the suspicion that the gold had been smuggled since the bars had foreign markings on them, the statement added. Both the accused were arrested and produced before additional chief metropolitan magistrate's court in Ahmedabad and were sent to judicial custody on Thursday.
