Doctors engineer Keshav Kumar’s transfer
AHMEDABAD: In a clear move to appeasethe medical fraternity, the Modi government, late on Monday, transferredadditional commissioner (sector 2) Keshav Kumar from Ahmedabad city to CID(Crime) in Gandhinagar.The move came after the ugly episode in Civilhospital last week when Kumar and DCP (zone V) Amitkumar Vishwakarma werecharged with attacking the doctors on emergency duty.A complaint was filedagainst Kumar and Vishwakarma by the doctors, which is being investigated by theAhmedabad crime branch.The doctors had given an ultimatum to thegovernment to take action by Tuesday, failing which they would strike work onceagain. Bowing to pressure, the state government, with permission from the ChiefElectoral Officer, Gurcharan Singh, transferred Kumar to CID(Crime)late on Monday. Vishwakarma, however, has been retained asDCP in Ahmedabad. Kumar’s charge of sector 2 has been handed over to jointcommissioner VV Rabari. Earlier, Home Minister Amit Shah promised that the crimebranch will investigate into Thursday’s incident in the emergency ward ofthe hospital. “The Home Minister said that the crime branchwill investigate into the matter and justice will be done soon. Given thispromise, we have decided to call of the strike�, JuniorDoctors’Association (JDA) president Dr Divyang Patel toldTNN.The Home Minister had convened a meeting on Tuesday noon whereintop officials of health and home department had participated to resolve thestand-off between the police and the doctors.
