A diamond merchant was shot at while he was driving his car from Punagaam on Tuesday night.
SURAT: Even as the city was grappling with the news of a builder being attacked, a diamond merchant was shot at while he was driving his car from Punagaam on Tuesday night. The diamond merchant, Ramesh Dawra, was hit on his leg and rushed to Surat General Hospital. According to police, the incident occurred when two motorcycle borne youths approached Dawra, and fired at him from a close range.
The duo was wearing helmets and rode away soon after firing, said police. Passers-by came to Dawra's rescue and rushed him to the hospital.
Preliminary investigation into the incident suggested that Dawra had a financial dispute with his cousin, Babu Kathiwadai over a diamond deal worth several crores, said police. The police are yet to identify the youths who shot at Dawra. Only last week, a builder was shot at while he was at his construction site at Rander. Investigation into the incident was on, said police. A case has been lodged at Kapodara police station.
