Desert Hawks celebrate golden jubilee

AHMEDABAD: To commemorate 50 years of the founding of the battalion, the Desert Hawks celebrated its golden jubilee from November 9 to 11. The celebration included a special sainik sammelan and wreath-laying ceremony to pay homage to the batallion’s martyrs. A solemn Sarv Dharm function, band display, family welfare meet and motorcycle display also formed part of the celebrations.Lt Gen R Ravindran, ex colonels of the regiment,37 serving and retired officers and approximately 576 veterans of the battalion attended the celebrations.
It worthy to note that Desert Hawks battalion is a specialist unit of the Indian Army adept at operations in the desert sector. The battalion was created on November 10, 1966 and took active part in the 1971 war.
