Death of a dream
As markets crashed on Friday, people across the state were hit just on the eve of Diwali. TOI spoke to some investors ... Investments have shrunk to half I had made some profits last year in business and invested the money in stocks. And, I did so after a lot of research. But investments have shrunk to half in less than one year.
I had parked around Rs 5 lakh in IT and infrastructure companies in September last year and in the present market I am getting around Rs 2 lakh.

Dark clouds may get darker Seeing the free fall of the market, I think it is my kids, who are still in school, will sell my scrips. I have stopped calculating the net worth of my portfolio, which I suppose has reduced by 60 per cent in the last eight months. The way global markets are crashing, it looks like the dark clouds of financial crisis will only get darker in the coming times. Naresh Gadhvi | businessman, Ahmedabad
We are selling in panic It s a panic situation. Due to the cash crunch, many of my clients are selling off their stocks despite they being less than half of the purchased price. My investment of Rs 10 lakh has scaled down to Rs 3 lakh. Looking at the global economic slump, there are chances of the market going lower from the present levels. Kamlesh Banker | stock broker, Ahmedabad
Afraid of calculating losses I have lost to the tune of Rs 6 lakh already and do not dare calculate the depreciation of my portfolio. The shares would be trading around 25 per cent of the value I bought them at. I am just holding on to them and have not bothered to calculate losses. I do not hope to see them rising to the levels I bought them at in the near future. I now plan to start a different business and work on it till things return to normal in the market Rajesh Dangar | businessman | Vadodara

Need bailout package for investors It s a black day for us. I think investors need a bailout package from the government. I have been waiting for the last four to five months for the market to recover, but it seems the wait is getting longer. I have never experienced such a volatile situation in the market in the last decade. I cannot pull out money from the market bearing huge loss. Harshad Patel | real estate consultant | Dabholi
I have lost lakhs The situation has turned from bad to worse. There is no hope to recover the huge losses in the market. I have lost more than Rs 20 lakh in the last six months Naresh Raika | Diamond manufacturer | Surat
