Dalit activists want CBI investigation

GANDHINAGAR:

Dalit activists

met DGP Shivanand Jha in Gandhinagar on Thursday and demanded a CBI inquiry into the

string

of incidents in north

Gujarat

, where Dalits are facing discriminated, particularly them not being allowed to take out wedding processions. The activists demanded the suspension of DSP Falguni Patel, who activists allege use derogatory words against Dalits in video that went viral.

About a dozen activists tried to meet CM Vijay Rupani and MoS Home Pradipsinh Jadeja, but couldn’t as they were unavailable. They then met the DGP and submitted a list of their demands.

Dalit activist Kevalsinh Rathod said, “There has been a spurt in attacks on wedding processions of

Dalit

youths in the last few days. We fear this is part of a well-planned conspiracy to target the Dalit community. We have demanded a CBI inquiry into these cases, as the state police has not taken any proper actions so far. Despite a video of Aravalli district DSP Falguni Patel using abusive language against Dalits and trying to frame them in police cases, the government has not taken any action so far.”
