CRPF man accused of torture by wife

on Sunday at the Ramol police station against her husband, Mahesh Patel — a CRPF man — accusing him of

domestic violence

. She has accused him of demanding

dowry

.

According to the FIR, Kajal Patel, resident of Mandal — a village in Ahmedabad district — has been married to Patel for six years. She says her husband and brother-in-law Piyush Patel had started demanding the salary she earned as a primary schoolteacher in Okhdi village. According to police sources, they harassed her mentally and physically when she refused to part with her salary.

After Patel was transferred to Chhattisgarh, Kajal Patel began living with his parents. “They too demanded money to let her stay with them,” a police official said.

“Patel egged his parents on to torture her.” She was then forced to move to her parents’ house in Vastral. She says Patel continued to threaten her over the phone and said that he would kill her and her brother when her returned on leave.

Kajal Patel has alleged in the FIR that her family even tried to strike a compromise but her in-laws demanded Rs 10 lakh to settle the matter. Police officials said that they will verify the details of the FIR and then take action against Patel.
