AHMEDABAD: A couple who live together in
Ghatlodia
were attacked by the woman's relatives, who are against the relationship. On Wednesday night, a group of men led by the woman's cousins smashed up the man's car and other vehicles outside the couple's home.
Ghatlodia police on Thursday registered a case of rioting, unlawful assembly, criminal intimidation and conspiracy against the woman's cousins

Desai, 25, stated that she had been staying at Sector 24 in Gandhinagar. She is a research assistant at Children's University and is pursuing a doctorate in psychology at Gujarat University. She said that on May 10, she and
Meru
Desai, 28, a resident of Ghatlodia, started living together at his home in Ghatlodia.
Ami said that her family opposed their relationship and her father, Gemar, had demanded Rs 51 lakh from Meru's family for a settlement within their community.
She said at about 10am on Wednesday, she was home when eight men led by Nagraj and Raju came to Meru's Ghatlodia home and began vandalizing vehicles parked outside the house.
The men demanded that the couple open the door and said that they would take Ami back or kill someone from Meru's family.
Ami said they locked themselves inside and the men left when other residents of the society began to gather.
L R Vaghela, police inspector of Ghatlodia, said, "The men were not from the city and teams have been formed to catch them after a complaint was lodged by the woman."
Ami said while her family are opposed to the relationship, Meru's family have happily accepted it.
