‘Coordination panel chief appointed without consent’
Ahmedabad: Differences have emerged among various school associations regarding the appointment of the chairman of their common coordination committee. Some have alleged that they learnt of Shankarsinh Rana’s appointment when they received a letter from the committee, announcing a meeting, on its official letterhead. They claimed that a couple of schools and teachers’ associations have appointed Rana without seeking consent from other school bodies. Sources said that the committee was constituted for better representation of issues by school associations such as the Akhil Gujarat Rajya Shala Sanchalak Mahamandal, Gujarat Rajya Acharya Sangh, Uttar Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh, Madhyamik Shala Shikshak Sangh, Gujarat Rajya Shala Vahivati Sangh and Gujarat Rajya Prathamik Shikshak Sangh. The term of Narayan Patel, the previous chairman, had expired and the position had been vacant for some time. There was a discussion on the next chairman and a meeting was to be called to pick a worthy candidate. Sources said that representatives of several associations were in the race for this position. The Akhil Gujarat Rajya Shala Sanchalak Mahamandal has also written to the general secretary of the committee, objecting to Rana’s appointment. Sources said that if the issue is not resolved, then it may result in dissolution of the committee. The issue came up days before the committee’s scheduled meeting on April 11 to oppose the common entrance test for Class 5 students for admission to Gyansetu and Raksha Shakti schools. The associations say that the test violates the rules of the Right to Education Act 2009.
