The Harchandani family of Khokhra area went through a harrowing time at the local crematorium as the CNG furnace did not function for nearly 1.5 hours due to a technical snag. Their relative, Jayshree Harchandani, 47, was brought to the crematorium for the last rites.

Ahmedabad: The Harchandani family of Khokhra area went through a harrowing time at the local crematorium as the CNG furnace did not function for nearly 1.5 hours due to a technical snag.
Their relative, Jayshree Harchandani, 47, was brought to the crematorium for the last rites.
After 90 minutes, the furnace operator announced that there was a technical problem and that the body will have to be taken out.

He suggested a pyre of wooden logs as an alternative.
“The last rites had to be performed again before mounting Jayshree’s mortal remains on the funeral pyre. But it turned out that even the wood provided to us was wet,” says one of the relatives.
Local social activist Harshad Patel told TOI, “Jayshreeben was my neighbour in Khokhra. The family went through a harrowing time after they went to the local crematorium to perform the last rites. We had to pour more ghee and other natural combustible materials before consigning the body to flames,” said Patel.
