Sources confirmed that Sreevardhan Dubey, a Class XII student, who was pursuing commerce with maths, succumbed to dengue-related complications on Monday afternoon.

“We are saddened by the demise of one of our students to dengue. The student last attended school on September 9 and then was on study leave at home. He had come to school on September 16 to take an exam,” said Unmesh Dixit, officer on special duty at DPS School.

Sources said Sreevardhan had got a fever last Monday. When it did not subside, he was admitted to a private hospital on SG Road. He then developed severe complications and finally succumbed.

The death comes as another shock for a city reeling from the scourge of dengue. This season has been especially deadly for children, as five children had died due to

dengue

related complications earlier.

According to AMC sources, Manira Qureshi (13) of Behrampura, Hani Patre (12) of Khokhra, Afrinbanu Shaikh (18 months) of Gomtipur, Lokesh Prajapati (4) of Vejalpur and Jay Parikh of Anandniketan School had earlier died due to the virus that is spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

Doctors say parents need to be especially careful while sending children to school. “Students should, without fail, apply mosquito repellant. They should wear full-sleeved shirts and full pants, to avoid bites of Aedes aegypti, which bites in the daytime,” said physician Dr Manoj Vitthalani.
