Gujarat Class-I officer alleges estranged husband hired man to stalk her on Valentine’s Day; booked
AHMEDABAD: A 29-year-old Class-I officer posted as a taluka development officer in North Gujarat alleged that her estranged husband hired a man to stalk her in Gandhinagar on Valentine's Day, in an attempt to pressure her in pending domestic violence and divorce cases.
According to the FIR filed with Sector 21 police on Saturday, the officer lived separately for the past year at a relative's residence in Sector 22 after marital discord. She already initiated domestic violence and divorce proceedings in a Gandhinagar court. She said that she married a man from Banaskantha according to her family's wishes in 2016, when she was 19.
Soon after their wedding, she was harassed and subjected to domestic violence, following which she left her husband's house and filed a divorce petition in Sep 2025, which the court admitted in Oct 2025.
On Friday morning around 8am, a relative spotted a youth allegedly conducting surveillance outside the house in Shreyas Society and caught him. The officer told police that the man admitted he was sent by her husband to keep watch on her movements. A black SUV without number plates and with tinted windows, in which another person was seated, reportedly fled the spot.
When confronted, the detained youth allegedly confessed that he tracked her movements not only at her residence but also at her workplace. The officer said she checked his mobile phone and found WhatsApp messages purportedly from her husband, including one sent at 8.33am that read "Nikdi" (she has stepped out). She photographed the message as evidence.
The complainant alleged that the surveillance aimed to intimidate her and exert pressure regarding the ongoing legal disputes. She further claimed that the accused repeatedly sent the youth to follow her for some time.
Sector 21 police registered an offence of stalking and criminal intimidation against the husband and detained the youth. Officials said further investigation was underway to verify digital evidence and identify others involved.
