AHMEDABAD: That is the Sanksrit version of the popular Gujarati raas number `Tara vina Shyam mane ekaldu laage' which will be played at the city's first-ever Sanskrit Garba Night to be organised on October 10.
It has been a long and arduous journey for the lovers of the ancient language, but efforts have paid off as nearly 30 garba songs have been recorded.
Practice sessions are on to match the steps with garba songs recorded in Sanskrit at the venue.
The garba night will be organised by nearly 300 lovers of this language with support from Eklavya Sanskrit Academy. Director of the academy Mihir Upadhyaya says that organising the garba in Sanskrit is a very sincere attempt to popularise the language among the youth.
"Sanskrit is rooted in our cultural heritage. Years ago, garba songs were sung in Sanskrit and we want to revive that tradition. The beats and the compositions are the same, only the songs will be sung in Sanskrit. It will be a different experience to enjoy a Sanskrit garba night," says Upadhyaya.
Traditional dress is compulsory at the event. Many of the youngsters working behind making this garba a success are in the 30-35 years age group. They include Jigar Adhyaru and Pooja Bharadwa.
"We love the language and also teach Sanskrit to those who love it," said Adhyaru, who is also the member of the garba troupe. Added Bharadwa, another member, "We hope to have great fun."
