City golfers for world meet in Malaysia
Ahmedabad: The city has witnessed a phenomenal rise in golfing activities in recent times with a number of talented young golfers performing exceedingly well at various state championships. On the basis of their performance in various junior golf tournaments organized in the state, four talented and promising young golfers Suhaan Shah, Pall Shingala, Shaurya Parikh and Ansh Jobanputra from Ahmedabad have been selected to be part of the Indian team for the Kids Golf World Championship to be played at Tanjong Puteri Golf Resort in Johor Bahru (Malaysia) from December 16-20.This international tournament will provide an excellent opportunity to these young golfers.
“Young golfers from several countries are taking part in the Kids Golf World Championship and it will be a great opportunity for our young champions to play alongside the best in the world and compete with them. We are trying to provide a platform to these young golfers by encouraging kids from all walks of life to to take part in the sport,” said Kaushal Shah, founder, Gujarat Junior Golf Tour (GJGT).
Suhaan (8) is the youngest of the lot while Pall, Shaurya and Ansh are all 10 years old.
“This will be my first international golf championship and I am eagerly looking forward to participate in it,’’ said an excited Ansh.
For Pall, this will be the fourth international championship and a back-to-back appearance at the Malaysia tournament. She finished in the top five of this championship last year.
“My idols are American professional golfers Lexi Thompson who plays on the LPGA tour and Tiger Woods,’’ said Pall.
“The way Pall is playing I just hope that in the days to come she will be part of the Indian team in the 2028 Olympics,’’ said Pall’s father Jemin Shingala.
Shaurya too will be participating in an international championship for the first time after having played at The Milkha Junior Championship in Chandigarh last year.
