AHMEDABAD: Even as the tremors from the atrocities against dalits in Una reverberate across the country, two alleged cow thieves - Yogesh Patni of Saraspur and Rajesh Patni of Patan - were caught by locals in Nikol on Friday afternoon, thrashed and handed to Nikol police.

Nikol police inspector H J Chaudhary said a goat and a calf were been recovered from the auto belonging to the two. Nikol police sources said both were shifted to a local hospital for treatment. According to Nikol police sources, Kailashben Chunara, who lives near Sardar Patel Ring Road at Nikol, lodged a complaint that the goat and calf belonging to her were grazing in front of her house at noon. tnn "Late in the afternoon, two people came in and fled after putting the goat and calf in the auto. As she raised an alarm, a few self-styled cow protectors chased the auto and intercepted it near Surbhi restaurant at Nikol," said a police official. Both Yogesh and Rajesh Patni were then thrashed in public and then handed to Nikol police. "Both have been sent for medical treatment," said an pollce official. However, the cops were reluctant to reveal the name of the hospital were the accused were treated.
