Brar takes guarded stand on blast inquiry
SURAT: The 29 bombs found here in a condition of 'high alert' after the Ahmedabad blasts has focussed all attention on its police chief RMS Brar. Cautious to make any comment on these IEDs that rained on his city, Brar says he is sending regular investigation updates to the office of the Director General of Police.
This after he was reportedly 'misquoted' as saying that the Integrated Circuit chips found in these bombs might have come from Thailand.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to unearth the mystery behind the unexploded bombs placed at some weirdest places like tree and electric transformer, which has sealed its lips on the places these bombs were found. "We are moving in the right direction and are also getting some vital clues", is the stock statement it gives the media.
Officials who were either involved in the process of defusing the bombs or present where the bombs were recovered say they were "plain lucky". The first bomb was defused by Umra police inspector R S Patel who knows how to defuse bombs without precaution. In fact some senior policemen suggested they take the bomb inside the police station to defuse it, just to avoid the media.
Out of 29 bombs found and defused from different parts of the city since July 27, only the last two bombs found from Chowpatty and Amroli Bridge were handled professionally by the Bomb Disposal Squad members. However those who were assisting the squad were not taking precautions.
"We are equally intrigued about the weird spots chosen to plant the bomb. But the answer to this major question being asked by everyone will surface after we get some vital clues and arrest some people who were actually involved in the act," said Brar. He added that the sketches prepared by Ahmedabad police were given to Surat police stations also.
A member of SIT when asked about the calls made to report the bombs said, "We screened the calls but nothing substantial came out. The calls made after the recovery of bombs led us nowhere as many turned out to be hoaxes."
