On Friday, he along with his friend Hitesh Hadiyal, 17, had come to CG Road on his scooter to have early morning snacks and tea. As they were travelling by Sthanakvasi Jain Chhatralaya on CG Road on their scooter at 5 am, a car hit them from behind.
“Vaghela says in his complaint that it all happened in a matter of seconds,” said Navrangpura police official. “The car was speeding when it hit the scooter and they fell down on the road. The grey-coloured car skidded sharply, hit the railing on the divider, damaged a streetlight and then got stuck in the broken railing. Vaghela phoned a friend and 108, and informed them about the incident. After that they were shifted to VS Hospital.”
RV Desai, inspector of Navrangpura police station, said that the car driver was identified as Harsh Patel, 23, a resident of Radhekrishna Society, Naranpura. “He is doing his LLB and also deals in used cars,” said Desai. “He said he had recently got the BMW from a person for sale. He was detained and later arrested.”
In his statement before the police, Patel has mentioned that he tried to avoid the scooter when he saw it ahead of him. But the car still hit the scooter after which the car veered and hit the divider. He has also mentioned that he did not flee from the spot and was beaten up by persons who had come to help the two injured youths.
Desai said they had roped in forensic experts to examine the car involved.
