Gandhinagar: Tabling and discussion of bills presented by the govt took up more than 50% of the time that the Gujarat assembly convened during its three-day monsoon session in Sep this year. Question hour, in which MLAs discuss issues related to people's concerns, took up only 19% of the time that the assembly was in session.
A report titled ‘Brief Report of Proceedings of the Seventh Session of the Fifteenth Gujarat Legislative Assembly', which was posted on the website of the Gujarat assembly on Wednesday, stated that apart from the chief minister, speaker, deputy speaker, ministers, chief whip, and deputy chief whip, 23 MLAs remained absent on the last day of the three-day session that was held from Sep 8 to 10. The report said that four MLAs remained absent on Sep 8, while 14 remained absent on Sep 9.

According to the report, govt bills took up 51.31% of the assembly session time, question hour took up 18.89% of the time, govt and other proposals took up 17.31% of the time, and other matters accounted for 12.49% of the assembly time. During the three-day session, 5,893 visitors experienced the assembly proceedings, with a majority of them being from educational institutions.
