AHMEDABAD: Seven sadhaks of the Asaram Ashram in Motera, including its public relations officers, were booked for culpable homicide for the case of mystery death of two boys Dipesh and Abhishek Waghela.
Dipesh and Abhishek used to study at the boarding school run from the ashram campus. They went missing on July 3 and later their decomposed bodies were recovered from the banks of Sabarmati, behind the ashram on July 5.
This incident triggered widespread anger and discontent among public.

A bandh call was also given and several sporadic incidents of rioting and vandalism took place in the aftermath.
Gauging the seriousness of the incident, state government handed over investigations to CID. The inquiry was earlier being conducted by Adalaj police station.
Recently, a team of CID officers investigating the case sent a report to additional DGP VV Rabari. It mentioned that due to negligence of seven persons in the ashram, the two boys went missing from the gurukul. Instead of informing police, the ashram members kept the boys' families busy in performing tantrik rituals, to get them back. This negligence was one of the reasons for the accused getting booked under Juvenile Justice Act.

On the basis of this report, CID (crime) registered a complaint against public relations officer of the ashram Udai Sanghani along with sadhaks Vikram Hemka, Pankaj Saxena, Minchetan Patra, Yogesh Bhati, Ajay Shah and Kaushik Vani.
It's a clear case of murder: Waghela
Dipesh's father, Praful Waghela, was far from convinced with this move. "Police and state government are trying to protect Asaram Ashram and thus a culpable homicide complaint was registered. This is a clear case of murder. Even section 304 IPC is being used because we had demanded a CBI enquiry in our petition before Gujarat High Court," said Waghela.
