Arhaan bags 3 medals in ISSO nat’l games

Ahmedabad: Swimmer Arhaan Harsh shone by winning three medals in the fifth edition of the International Schools Sports Organization (ISSO) National Games 2023 at Noida.
Competing in the U-14 age group, Arhaan, a Grade-8 student of Calorx Olive International School, won gold medal in 50m breaststroke, 100m breaststroke apart from a silver medal in 100m backstroke.
Seeded players enjoy winning run in women’s tennis tourney: Seeded players enjoyed a winning run on Tuesday at the All India Tennis Association (AITA) Women’s 1L prize money tournament being played at Palodia.
Top seed Divya Bhardwaj of Gujarat thumped Rajasthan’s Sylvie Pal 9-0 while sixth seed Vidhi Jani breezed past local girl Manya Desai 9-2. Fourth seed Mushratanjum Shaik of Telangana thumped Gujarat’s Ipshita Dholakia 9-1. Maharashtra’s Richa Chougule and Karnataka’s Sonicka Jagdeesh recorded comfortable triumphs over local athletes Dhara Thakor (9-3) and Khushali Modi (9-5) respectively.
Meanwhile, Aarushi Rawal and Prapti Soni played out a tense match in which the former prevailed 9-6. Aarushi raced to a 8-2 lead before Prapti won four points on the trot to reduce the deficit to 6-8. However, Aarushi thwarted Prapti’s further comeback bid to emerge triumphant. Priyanshi Bhandari of Gujarat overcame Sharanya Shetty of Maharashtra 9-6 while second seed Omna Yadav of Telangana demolished statemate Pavithra Reddy 9-3.
Munshaw enters semis of Masters event: The ITF Masters100 were played across three different venues at the Ahmedabad Racquet Academy (ARA), Ahmedabad City Tennis Foundation (ACTF) and Rajpath Club.
In the 50+ doubles category, Narendra Chavda and Sanjay Patel defeated Bhadresh Khamar and Rajput Prem Singh 4-1, 4-2.
Shridhar Choksi and Sameer Mansuri edged Prashant Maheshwari and Rahul Rajvaidya 2-4, 5-4 (7-4), 10-6 in the 35+ doubles category.
Parag Shah and Chetan Thakore defeated Manthan Patel and Jaluk Patel 5-4(2), 4-2 in the 45+ doubles category quarterfinal while Subhash Patel and Sanjay Chauhan emerged victorious against Minesh Shah and Bharat Parwani 4-2, 5-3 in the 50+ category doubles quarterfinal.
Vaidik Munshaw thrashed Mishal Javia 6-2, 6-2 in the singles semifinal of the 30+ category while Viha Desai averted a mid-match lapse in concentration to pip Khush Bakeri 7-6 (13-11), 0-6, 13-11 in the semifinal of the 35+ category.
V Sevak breezed past Gaurav Bahl 6-1, 6-0 in the 40+ category quarterfinal while Parag triumphed over Mrushad Patel 6-4, 6-1 in the 45+ category quarterfinal
Narendra Chavda held off the challenge of Ketan Shashikant to win 7-5, 7-6 (3) in the 50+ category semifinal while in the 55+ semi finals, Paresh Patel had it easy against Phulla Shah. The former won 6-1, 6-2.
Vijay Trivedi defeated Kuldeep Singh 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 in the 60+ category semifinal while Srinivasan Subramanian beat Brajmohan Meena 7-6 (8-6), 6-0 in the 65+ semifinal category.
