AHMEDABAD: The last night of Navratri festival did not pass without trouble for the city police which already had their hands full with cases of skirmishes that continued to be reported from various parts of the city every alternate night during the nine-night festivities. To compound their miseries, one more incident of group clash was reported from Nobelnagar post Saturday night.
According to police, scuffle broke out between two groups when some youths were denied entry at a garba venue in the area. "The trouble started when Dinesh Makwana, 21, a resident of Valmikivaas, Naroda, visited a public garba event at Government High School Ground along with his friends. Local leaders of the area confronted Makwana and his friends and asked them to leave the premises, as they were outsiders. When Makwana refused, accused - local AMC corporator Bahadursinh Vaghela and his supporters identified as Raju, Pulkit, Kaushik, Zala and Anand Vyas attacked Makwana and his friends and hurled caste-related abuses at them," said an official from Sardarnagar police station.
In his complaint, Makwana has alleged that he had lost his gold chain and cellphone in the scuffle at 1 am on Sunday, following which, the investigators detained some of the accused in the case to question them on Sunday.
