AMC inspector, staff clear illegal stalls; attacked by vendors near Iskcon flyover in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad: An Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) inspector and his team were attacked by roadside vendors during an encroachment removal drive near the Iskcon flyover on Tuesday afternoon, stated a complaint filed with Satellite police. The incident occurred around 1.45pm when the team was clearing illegal food stalls obstructing traffic on the service road outside Dev Arc Mall in Satellite.Complainant Mahesh Patel, 53, an inspector with AMC's estate and TDO department, stated that he and his colleagues — sub-inspectors Dhavlal Bhagora and Rahul Vasava — along with two labourers, were on patrolling duty in compliance with a Gujarat high court order directing the removal of encroachments from major roads between Iskcon and Shyamal crossroads.Patel said that when they tried to remove roadside snack stalls, some vendors fled, leaving their carts behind. The team loaded the items onto a municipal vehicle and continued towards Iskcon Bridge, where three men confronted them, demanding their goods back. "When our staff explained that they were operating illegally, one of them suddenly became violent and hit our labourer Vishal Patni on the head with a wooden stick," Patel said in his complaint. The attackers identified as Prem Singh, Jaysingh, and Charansingh Yadav of Satellite also allegedly threatened the team, hurled abuses, and tried to snatch back the seized material. Police arrived soon after and detained the accused. Vishal Patni was rushed to hospital for treatment. Satellite police registered an FIR under Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections for assault, obstruction of duty, and criminal intimidation.
