AHMEDABAD: An eight-day event has been organised by Alliance Francaise (AF) as an ode to 600 glorious years of Ahmedabad. The event starts from Saturday and will have city-based storyteller, photographer, leading film-maker and an artist who will converge to give a glimpse in the city's past.
Award winning films like Bhav ni Bhavai and Mirch Masala of film-maker Meera Lakhia would be screened on the first two days.
Lakhia is the first woman art director to win a national award.
The event will be peppered with stories on the city by Esther David. "For me Ahmedabad is the walled city. It's a magical place with walking graves and laughing saints. Today the wall has gone missing, making it vulnerable to forces that are out to destroy its character of unity, togtherness and care. My stories would relive those lost walled city experiences."
Parmanand Dalwadi, who has worked with the famous French photojournalist Henri Cartier-Bresson will present never seen pictures from his collection of Ahmedabad in the 1960s and 70s. "I will share certain moments from the city's past." There will also be an exclusive photo exhibition of Robin David and Bindi Sheth.
"The event has been organised along with TransIndus Foundation. I am the only French here while the rest of my team members are Amdavadis. AF wants to contribute to the rich cultural heritage of this city," says AF Philippe Martin, director of Alliance Francaise.
