Ahmedabad: Woman consumes poison after father-in-law demands dowry to start new business as the old one had shut down due to Lockdown

AHMEDABAD: A 22-year-old woman

has lodged a complaint against her father-in-law

on Saturday alleging that due to demands of money to start a new business as the old one had closed down due to Covid-19 lock down, she consumed poison. However she was rushed to Shardaben hospital where she is under treatment.

Nikol police have lodged a complaint under section 498 (A) and section 3 and 7 of the Anti-dowry act.

According to the FIR, she was married to

Anilkumar Kushwah

in March 2019. Since then she used to live with her husband, father in law and mother in law.

Kalpana who has done her TY B. Com has mentioned in the complaint that due to lock down her father in law's business had to be closed down.

"Complainant's father in law wanted to start a new business at Bakrol but due to the financial crisis he was not able to start the new business hence her husband and father in law used to stay at home" said a police official of

The woman has alleged that her father in law used to quarrel and abuse her since the last four months for the household expenses and asked her to bring dowry from her parents.

The woman has mentioned in the complaint that if she said anything against her father in law he would threaten to drive her out of the house. "The complainant's husband used to calm down his father but a few days he would start again.

On September 5, 2020 the complainant's father in law was in severe financial crisis and she should bring dowry from her parents. "Her father in law also taunted her but her husband intervened to save her. But the words of the father in law hurt the complainant so much that at about 4 pm in the evening she consumed poison. However, her husband who was at the house at that time rushed her to Shardaben hospital from where she lodged a complaint against her father in law" a police added.

Nikol police sources said they are verifying the details mentioned in the FIR and take action after they get evidence.
