Ahmedabad: Woman accuses boyfriend of exploitation on false marriage promise
Ahmedabad: A 34-year-old woman from the Anandnagar area of the city has lodged a police complaint against her boyfriend, alleging that he sexually exploited her on the false pretext of marriage and later refused to marry her.
According to Anandnagar police, the complainant works with a private firm in the city and came into contact with the accused through a matrimonial website around one-and-a-half years ago. The two later met in person and developed a friendship that eventually turned into a relationship.
Police said the woman alleged that the accused, who belonged to the same community, proposed marriage to her during the course of their relationship. Trusting his promises, she agreed to continue the relationship and frequently met him.
In her complaint, the woman stated that they stayed together at various hotels in Ahmedabad as well as in Rajasthan, where they established physical relations. She further alleged that she often bore expenses for their stays and other outings. The complaint also claims that the couple regularly met at the man’s rented residence, where he allegedly had sexual relations with her on the promise of marriage.
According to investigators, the relationship continued for several months before the accused allegedly began distancing himself from the woman. She claimed that despite repeated attempts to contact him, he stopped communicating and eventually refused to marry her.
Feeling cheated, the woman approached Anandnagar police and filed a complaint.
Inspector R S Parmar of Anandnagar police said a case has been registered under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with sexual intercourse obtained through deceitful means, including a false promise of marriage.
