Ahmedabad swelters as temperature climbs to 42.8°C
Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad witnessed intense heat on Wednesday with the maximum temperature soaring to 42.8 degrees celsius, the highest recorded in the city over the past 10 days. The temperature was 3.1 degrees above normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The minimum temperature also remained above normal at 29.7 degrees celsius, which was 1.7 degrees higher than the seasonal average. The IMD has forecast that the city is likely to continue experiencing severe heat, with the maximum temperature expected to hover around 43 degrees celsius on Thursday.
Humidity levels showed significant variation during the day. The relative humidity stood at 60% at 8.30am but dropped to 29% by 5.30pm. Several areas of Ahmedabad also experienced gusty winds during the evening hours.
Among major cities in Gujarat, Ahmedabad emerged as the hottest location on Wednesday. It was followed by Surendranagar (42.3), Bhavnagar (42.1), Gandhinagar (42), and Rajkot (41.2).
The IMD’s latest forecast for Gujarat indicates that there was unlikely to be any significant change in maximum temperatures over the next seven days.
However, pre-monsoon activity is expected to bring some relief to parts of Gujarat. The IMD has predicted light to moderate showers over parts of south Gujarat and coastal Saurashtra during the weekend.
