Ahmedabad rural court gets bomb threat

Ahmedabad: The city witnessed another bomb scare on Friday. The rural court in Navrangpura received a bomb threat, barely a day after a similar hoax triggered panic at the metropolitan court at Gheekanta.Police said the threat prompted an immediate security response, with teams from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), dog squad, local police and fire brigade rushing to the rural court complex near the Income Tax area. The court premises and surrounding areas were thoroughly searched, but no suspicious object was found, officials said. Authorities said the incident appeared to be part of a continuing series of threats targeting court complexes in the city."The entire court premises was checked thoroughly by BDDS and dog squad teams. Nothing suspicious was found," a police official said, adding that security around the court complex was tightened as a precaution. The fresh threat came a day after a formal complaint was filed with the cybercrime police on Thursday after a threat email sent to the chief judicial magistrate court at Gheekanta.According to the complaint filed by Nilesh Mekwan, 53, registrar of the chief judicial magistrate court, an email received from an unidentified ID claimed that 18 cyanide gas-filled bombs were planted inside the court building and warned that they would explode by 1.45pm.The email, sent from an email address of Sourav Biswas early Thursday morning, contained a long message with political references and threats intended to create panic among court staff and the public.After the email surfaced, the court administration alerted Karanj police station and the police control room, following which BDDS and security teams carried out a detailed search of the metro court premises. However, no explosive device was found.Cybercrime police later registered a case under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act against the unidentified sender.
