AHMEDABAD: The road transport office (RTO), Ahmedabad, has unearthed a major racket where
fake licences
were issued with the signature of
Gandhinagar RTO. However, the
RTO
officials had to wage a long jurisdiction battle with police to register the complaint. Finally, it was lodged at Vastrapur police station on Thursday.
Hardik Goswami, 31, a motor vehicle inspector with Ahmedabad RTO, registered the complaint under IPC Section 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document) and other secions of the IPC.
Goswami in his complaint against Kunal Patel, a resident of Thaltej, and one Kalpesh claimed that forged licences were shown as issued by Gandhinagar RTO but had digital signatures of Ahmedabad RTO. The complainant stated that on February 17 one Sejal Vaghela, a resident of Gandhinagar, and Kunal Patel visited the RTO Ahmedabad and met assistant RTO Vinita Yadav. Sejal said that she had paid Rs 3,000 per licence and had got six licences from Kunal.
She said Kunal gave her licences of Nilesh Vaghela and Ankit Vaghela, both residents of Gandhinagar, Rahul Ruparel, Dhrumil Jadav and Sunil Chavda, a resident of Kalol. When the
ARTO
checked the system, she found that the numbers mentioned on the
driving
licences were not in the system and the driving licences were without chips.
The ARTO then took statements of Sejal and Kunal and in his statement Kunal said that he had given the work of getting the licence prepared to one Kalpesh who was working as an RTO agent.
The RTO Ahmedabad decided to lodge the complaint. The licences were obtained by Kunal from Kalpesh on August 1, 2020 and February 17,2021.
