AHMEDABAD: R Bharat Patel 53, of Vastral who runs an engineering unit from his house has lodged a complaint at Ramol police station on Thursday that six accused who were later identified as Iswharpuri Goswami of Ramol, Shailiesh Thakor Narol, Pradeep Gordhan Kachadia of Ramol, Ankur Bhupendra Patel of Hathijan, cheated him on the pretext of giving him gold biscuits at cheaper rates than the market.
The offence had taken place about seven months ago but one of the accused who had got the other accused in touch with the complainant promised him to get back his money, the complainant waited but a few days back he read in the newspaper about a gang involved in similar type of cheating, he approached Ramol police and lodged the complaint.
Ramol police said they had already arrested four of the six accused in another case of similar kind about a fortnight ago and four of the accused are at present in Judicial custody. "We are hunting for the remaining two unknown accused and could question the accused in the jail about them," said inspector of Ramol police station KS Dave.
Patel has stated in the FIR that Goswami told him that his friend had obtained cheaper rate gold biscuits from customs and he had to sell it. Patel got ready and called up Shailesh. Shailesh told him to come to Hathijan circle on July 31, 2020 and showed him the biscuit. Patel was convinced that the gold biscuit was original and gave Shailesh Rs 3 lakh. However just at that time a car came from behind and intercepted them. Three persons got down from the car and identified themselves as policemen and told them they would be booked for smuggling gold.
According to the FIR, the three made Patel and Shailesh sit in the car and took them away. In the way they beat-up Patel and took the gold biscuit and Rs 3 lakh from him and threw him out of the car and took Shailesh along with them.
"Patel walked up to a nearby petrol pump where Goswami was standing and told him about the incident. Goswami asked him not to lodge a police complaint, he will get back his money anyhow though he doesn't know who the persons were who took him the car", said inspector Dave.
However, after Patel read in the newspaper about such a gang operating in the city, and some members of the gang have been arrested by Ramol police, he approached Ramol police and lodged the complaint. "He has identified four of them when we showed him the pictures of the accused. We will soon nab the remaining unknown persons", said Dave.
