AHMEDABAD: Death of an egret on Sunday created a bird flu scare in Maninagar. The animal husbandry department later sent it to Bhopal for further investigation.
A flying egret had dropped dead inside Karmabhumi Society near Gor na Kuva in Maninagar East on Sunday morning. When the residents informed the forest and animal husbandry department, a team was rushed to the spot.

“They immediately took possession of the bird and sent it to Bhopal for further investigation,” said a senior official.
“Nothing unusual has come to the fore. We don’t want to take any chances as the state has reported H5N8 strain of bird flu,” the official added. No district adjacent to Ahmedabad has registered any case of bird flu so far.
Four crows were found dead in Mehsana district, however, all the four samples were tested negative for bird flu.
