Ahmedabad: A 10-year-old boy who suffered 86% burns in a gas geyser blast in Rajasthan last month was brought to Ahmedabad for treatment. Dr Vijay Bhatia, a plastic surgeon at Sterling Hospital, said children with such extensive burns typically have a survival rate of about 10%. "Timely intervention, advanced burn care and continuous monitoring were key to the boy's treatment. The boy's father, who sustained nearly 35% burns, was also treated at the hospital," he said.Hospital officials said a team of plastic surgeons, an intensivist and an anaesthetist worked with the nursing staff, and a collagen-based biological dressing was introduced at an early stage.
