AHMEDABAD: It will be Lord Jagannath's 142nd Rath Yatra on July 4, attended by lakhs of devotees. City cops are working round the clock to ensure the event is conducted peacefully and without any untoward incidents. In a first, along with hundreds of cameras installed on the Rath Yatra route, eight face recognition systems (FRS)will be installed at three vital places.


Top intelligence officials said the systems will be installed at Jagannath Temple at Jamalpur and Saraspur (Mosal). However, they did not disclose the location of the third point wher the FRS will be installed.


"The only thing we can reveal is that the third face recognition system will be installed at a sensitive place. This will be the first Rath Yatra after the Pulwama terror attack and we are leaving nothing to chance," said an intelligence official. "We have fed almost 300 photographs and sketches of terrorists and criminals into the system so that they can be traced and identified by FRS if they are present among about the 5 lakh devotes expected to be present over the stretch of 18 kilometres" the intelligence official added.


Senior police officials said about 25,000 police officials and personnel, about 50 companies (about 95 jawans in each company) of Para Military forces along with trainees from different states will be deployed in the bandobast duty. "It will help young IPS officers to train themselves on how to manage such a huge gathering of people who are mostly on the move," said a top official. Meanwhile on Saturday, MoS (home) Pradeepsinh Jadeja, DGP Shivanand Jha, city police chief A K Singh and DCP, crime branch, Deepan Bhadran held a meeting at the crime branch HQ in Raikhad to review the safety measures taken. MoS Jadeja said clean drinking water facility will be set up along the route. A control room will be set up by AMC authorities, eight at different police stations on the route, and drones will be deployed for ariel survey of the route. "15 quick response teams will be at stand to at different places in the city to handle emergencies," said Jadeja.
