Ahmedabad: Around 15 cars were gutted after a major fire broke out in an open plot near Mangalmurti in the Sola area of Ahmedabad on Wednesday, triggering panic among nearby residents and commuters.
The vehicles, believed to belong to a nearby car service station, were parked in the vacant plot opposite the facility when the blaze suddenly erupted and quickly engulfed the cars.
Preliminary findings by officials suggest that the fire may have started from burning rubbish in the open plot and rapidly spread to the parked vehicles. Thick smoke and flames rose from the spot as several cars were reduced to charred shells within minutes.
Upon receiving the alert, the fire brigade dispatched multiple teams to the scene. A total of six fire tenders, including water tankers, were pressed into service to control the blaze. Firefighters worked for a considerable time before bringing the flames under control and preventing the fire from spreading further.
