AHMEDABAD: An employee of an agency that offers consultancy services to students aspiring to study overseas filed a complaint of cheating against seven former employees on Monday. He accused them of stealing data and giving it to another agency where they currently work.

They were assigned the responsibility of assisting students with information about admission to foreign universities. As part of their job, they were required to store the data of these students and keep it updated.
Lal resigned on September 10, 2022, and surrendered his laptop on December 21, 2022. On December 1, 2022, Polan, Nayak, Shah and Patil quit the agency and on December 3, 2022, Trivedi also resigned.
This made the office bearers of the agency suspicious, and they carried out an inquiry. They found that the seven ex-employees had taken with them all the data pertaining to the students and asked the students not to contact Agent Overseas Education henceforth.
According to the FIR, CCTV footage showed them stuffing some of the documents in their bags and destroying some papers. These ex-employees also allegedly deleted data from the firm’s system.
The seven persons have been charged with criminal breach of trust, fraudulent removal or concealment of property and abetment under IPC and under the Information Technology Act.
