AHMEDABAD: Exams in Sahajanand College were cancelled on Friday following the clash between a lecturer and head of his department in the office of the college principal on Thursday.
College sources said cross-complaints were lodged by lecturer Mayank Pandit and his HoD, BR Pandya, at Satellite police station after the clash. However, the main issue of non-compliance of Pandya's order by Pandit which reportedly triggered the row was still far from settled, sources said.
On Friday, principal Ghanshyam Patel was reported to have got anonymous calls asking him to resolve the issue or be prepared to meet an accident.
Sources said the college authorities suspected the hand of Pandit in the calls. This was the reason why the principal decided to postpone the preliminary exams on Friday and Saturday.
It is said that Pandit had set question papers for two earlier exams and was asked to set one more. An irate Pandit refused to cooperate and had a tiff with the HoD and other senior members of the management. As tempers flared, Pandit slapped Pandya. The latter fell down and his specs were broken.
Principal Ghanshyam Patel told TOI, "We will take disciplinary action against Pandit for his behaviour. We have also issued a show-cause notice to him."
