Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Pradesh
Congress Committee (GPCC) on Monday demanded an action against the ruling
BJP leaders in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the state government for increasing the water level of the
Sabarmati river for the riverfront cruise, at a time when the meteorological department had forecast heavy rains for the city.
“The water level of the Sabarmati river is generally at around 128 feet.
The AMC wrote an email to the irrigation department asking it to increase the water level in the river to 134.5 feet on July 2. Several parts of the city experienced heavy waterlogging owing to the higher level of water in the river,” Congress spokesperson
Manish Doshi alleged.
He alleged that the BJP leaders of the AMC and the state government put the lives of 75 lakh Ahmedabad residents at risk “just to ensure that the cruise operator did not face any problems”. Speaking to reporters, Doshi demanded an action against BJP leaders for the decision to increase the water level of the Sabarmati river. tnn
