Accused sent to two-day remand

A metropolitan court on Tuesday sent six accused to police remand till July 18 in connection with the ride crash at an amusement park at Kankaria lakefront in which two youths lost their lives and 29 others sustained injuries. The six accused are directors of Superstar Amusement Pvt Ltd Ghanshyam Patel and his son Bhavesh Patel, manager Tushar Choksi, two operators Lala Mahendra Patel and Kishan Mahanty and a helper Manish Vaghela. They have been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The police had sought 10-day remand of all the accused claiming that each of the accused had played different roles. It was an assembled ride and it was necessary to know from where parts were purchased. The accused persons’ presence would be required during probe. In defence, the accused submitted that they had abided by all the conditions imposed by the authorities since 2014. The records were with the civic body. There was not even a single untoward incidence since 2014. And there was no intention to harm anybody on their part.
