palitana (bhavnagar): sitting in his brother''s lap, seven-year-old rushit porwal speaks about attaining moksha (salvation) by renouncing this world. "there is nothing to regret in leaving this place (world). by renouncing it i am merely absolving myself from pains and miseries of the material world," says rushit, asserting that he would begin his life afresh after he gets diksha from his acharya. before you dismiss his words as a child''s imagination running wild, remember that he stands before a crowd of 60,000 to explain why he decided to renounce the world. and rushit was not alone in his resolve. impressed by preachings of jain muni acharya gunratna surishwar maharaj, rushit''s father motilal (40) mom aruna (38), brother girish (14) and sister rashmi (9) also decided to renounce this ''material'' world. "we want to end the circle of life, death and rebirth. diksha will help us achieving supreme level of salvation which lord mahavirahimself achieved," says girish, rushit''s elder brother. girish and rushit were also instrumental in influencing their parents to leave the worldly miseries. "they were much more involved in jain preachings than me. i have also realised the futility of continuing with this vicious cycle of life and death," says motilal porwal. a resident of belgam in karnataka, motilal decided to leave aside all his wealth which runs into several crores of rupees and renounce the world. without the slightest of remorse, he gave away his soaring saree business to his relatives as his entire family was taking diksha. "i am least concerned about the wealth i have left behind. now my brothers and relatives will decide what to do with it," he adds. taking diksha from acharya munis was common among members of the jain community, but this time it happened en masse creating a record of sorts under a single acharya and at the same time. jain devotees gathered here at the foothills of shetrunjay hills, believed to be holiest jain pilgrimage, for the diksha ceremony of 37 persons. the three-day ceremony, which concludes here on saturday, had everything done in style and grandeur to make the event memorable for years to come. it was a star-studded event for real with pearls, gems, diamonds and flowers made in silver and gold showering from skies. a cheetah helicopter was specially hired from mumbai to help diksharthis shower their ''precious'' offerings on bhagwan adeshwar temple on the top of shetrunjay hills. "every diksharthi is showering precious stones as per his capacity," says hemraj shah, a member of the diksha mahotsav samiti, without quoting the exact amount of the precious stones showered by 37 diksharthis. the copter made 18 sorties to carry all of them right over the top of the temple to shower what otherwise matters most for the entire world at their lord''s feet. "today world is entangled in a series of problems threatening its existence. this was a creation of unflinching greed among people world-wide in one form or the other. nation''s too are trespassing each other''s independence to exercise greater hold," said acharya gunratan surishwar maharaj. he added that jainism tells its followers to pursue a life which is harmless not only towards other humans but also every living being on this earth. "jain theology speaks of mutual co-existence, and will certainly help in bringing a new world order," he remarked.
