7 arrested for smuggling 7kg of hybrid ganja from Vietnam

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad airport police on Monday arrested seven persons, including a woman, for allegedly smuggling 7 kg of hybrid ganja from Vietnam into Ahmedabad. The accused were apprehended outside Terminal 2 of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA).
According to police officials, the ganja was concealed inside a cushion, which was then packed inside a bag. Authorities are investigating how the drugs were smuggled past security checks during departure and arrival.
Kanan Desai, deputy commissioner of police zone IV, said that the hybrid ganja seized from the seven suspects weighing 7.05 kg was worth Rs 2.1 crore. Four of the accused brought the contraband from Vietnam, while three had come to take the delivery.
One suspect, identified as Asraf Khan, is still at large, said Desai. The arrested individuals include Safaraz Vadgama (35), Shoaib Bichara (22), Akhil Kolad (24), and Nadeem Amreliya (28) from Junagadh; Farhan Sheikh (30) and Sahej Miyana (34) from Ahmedabad; and Manisha Kharadi (26) from Gandhinagar.
Airport police inspector S G Khambhala said that Sahej, Farhan, and Manisha came to receive the four who arrived from Vietnam. The police detained them on suspicion and discovered the hybrid ganja upon inspection.
They were held from outside the arrival gate at Terminal 2 of SVPIA. In addition to the ganja, the police also recovered foreign and Indian currency from the accused.
A senior police official mentioned that they are investigating how the accused cleared security checks in Vietnam and the scan upon arrival at the Ahmedabad airport.
