SABARKANTHA: At least six women were killed and eight others were injured after a private bus collided with a van on a highway in Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district on Wednesday, police said, according to news agency PTI.
The van was carrying women from Modasa in Aravalli district when a speeding bus hit it from behind on National Highway 48, connecting Shamlaji to Himmatnagar, Deputy Superintendent of Police A K Patel said.
According to police, the women were part of a catering team for social events. They were travelling from Modasa to Hunj village in Himmatnagar to attend a function when the accident took place.
Six women passengers in the van died in the collision, Patel said.
Six other women, a man and the van driver were injured, police added.
The injured were taken to Himmatnagar civil hospital. The condition of two of them was critical, said hospital medical officer Dr Dhrupad Chauhan.
The bodies were sent for postmortem to a government hospital.
