AHMEDABAD: The state government, in reply to a question by a senior Congress member
Shaktisinh Gohil, said in the House on Friday that of the 16 sanctioned posts of principals in government engineering colleges in the state, at least eight are vacant.
“There is no directive from the government to fill the vacant posts and the colleges are likely to function with the current arrangement of senior professors taking responsibility as in-charge principals,” said a education department official when asked about the government’s reply in the assembly.
Responding to a question by Viramgam MLA Tejashreeben Patel, the government said that of the 56 sanctioned posts of librarians in the government colleges, 23 are vacant. Of these, some are vacant since 2011 and 2013. The government also informed the House that the post of librarian in Gujarat Arts and Commerce College in Ahmedabad is vacant since 2003. The government further said that in case of AMP Law college of Rajkot, the post is vacant since 2009.
