4th tranche of teachers’ arrears to be released
Ahmedabad: The state government announced that the fourth instalment of arrears for pay revision according to the Seventh Pay Commission will be released to teachers at grant-in-aid schools. There are 60,000 such teachers in the state.In 2017, the state government decided to extend the benefits of the seventh pay commission recommendations to grant-in-aid teachers, and it was decided that the arrears for January 1, 2016 to July 31, 2017 would be paid in five instalments. The state government has paid three instalments so far. With this announcement for the fourth instalment, just one instalment remains to be paid.Sources in the association of the secondary school teachers said the government had promised to pay the full arrears to teachers within five years of the announcement. The government was to finish payments by November 2022. However, so far, the state government has paid only three instalments and has now announced the fourth instalment. There is no clarity on when the final instalment will be paid. Sources said 400 of the 60,000 teachers eligible for arrears are retired, and some have passed away.
