NEW DELHI: Four women died and sixteen others were injured in a collision between a pickup van and a truck near Chotila, Gujarat, late Monday night.

The van, carrying 20 passengers, was traveling to Somnath from Shiyani village in Limbdi taluka when the accident occurred around 10.30pm.

Police inspector I B Valvi stated, “The truck, coming from the opposite direction, turned right to halt at a roadside hotel and it led to the collision.”

Two women died at the scene, and two others succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The injured are being treated at Rajkot civil hospital.

The deceased, all related, were identified as Magjiben Rethariya (72), Galalben Rethariya (60), Manjuben Rethariya (65), and Gauriben Rethariya (68). The passengers were traveling to Somnath to perform 'pitru tarpan,' a ritual for deceased ancestors.
