Woman killed by husband, in-laws for dowry
Agra: A 25-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband and in-laws over dowry here.
Identified as Manju, she was found hanging from the ceiling of her room on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, following which her father Kalicharan filed a police complaint against her husband and in-laws, police said on Saturday afternoon.
The victim’s father alleged, “Three years ago, Manju had tied the knot with Dolly Singh, but since then his relatives and he had been torturing my daughter for dowry every single day. On several occasion she had informed me over phone how her sisters-in-law and husband along with others used to physically assault her and verbally abuse her.”
The incident took place in Gopalpura colony of Shamshabad area. After the incident, the entire family of the accused Dolly Singh has been at large.
On the basis of Kalicharan’s complaint, police filed an FIR against six people including the husband of victim under IPC section 304 B (dowry death). As per the police, the victim’s father-in-law Janak and brother-in-law Pratap have been arrested.
According to National Crime Record Bureau, in UP, 2,335 dowry deaths were reported in 2015.
