Wanted LeT operative apprehended by UP ATS and Telangana police

Uttar Pradesh ATS along with Telangana police arrested a Saudi-based, Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operative Abdul Aziz from Lucknow airport late Tuesday night.

LUCKNOW: Abdul Aziz alias Gidda - a listed member of Lashkar-e-Taiba was arrested by Telangana police and Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) moments after he arrived at Amausi Airport in Lucknow from Saudi Arabia.
Additional Director General (ADG) UP ATS Daljit Chaudhary confirmed the arrest adding that Abdul Aziz was taken away by the Telangana police who were looking for him in several cases lodged with the Hyderabad police.

Reports said Aziz was lodged in a Saudi Arabia jail for the past 8 years after his arrest for anomalies in his travelling documents. After the Indian intelligence agencies came to know about his arrest in Saudi Arabia, they sought his deportation through diplomatic channels and finally Aziz landed in India.
Sources in the intelligence agencies said Aziz was wanted in connection with the much publicized fake passport racket of Hyderabad. Leads have emerged suggesting his role in providing forged travel documents to many suspected terrorists from India whose names were otherwise on the watch-lists of various international airports in the country.
A native of Hyderabadi Aziz is alleged to have attended terror camps in Pakistan and have been associated with top leadership of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) as well. Sources said Abdul Aziz in wanted in several cases in which he has figured as accused on the basis of interrogation of several terror accused arrested in connection with different cases. He is known to have used aliases such as “Gidda’’ and “Ashrafi’. He has been actively involved with terror outfits since early 2000.
Aziz himself, they said, has not directly participated in any attacks so far and is only entrusted with brainwashing youngsters who come to Saudi Arabia for jobs. It is said that he has even sent youths to Chechnya for training. Aziz had been named as one of the conspirators in the conspiracy to blow up the Ganesh Temple in Secunderabad a few years ago, sources said.
