UP: Inmates injured in clash in Mathura jail, one booked

AGRA: Two inmates suffered injuries after being reportedly attacked by another inmate with a knife in the Mathura district jail on Tuesday. An FIR has been registered against the accused inmate on charges of attempt to murder.
According to jail officials, the incident occurred around 6am, when Ashok alias Babu, an undertrial, who has been in Mathura jail since May 2018 in connection to a murder case attacked Veerpal with a knife when the latter was brushing his teeth.Babu got in possession of knife as he was peeling potatoes for preparing vegetables in the kitchen.
After attacking Veerpal, Babu attacked another inmate Bhola, who is serving a life sentence since 2017 in connection to a murder case. Bhola also sustained injuries on his arm and finger, but was saved by his friend, Mubeen, who was offering namaz there.

Veerpal was rushed to district hospital, where doctors put stitches on deep cut on his neck. He is out of danger now, said police. Bhola was tested in the jail hospital itself.
Talking to TOI, Mathura jailor Arvind Kumar Pandey said that Babu seems to be mentally unstable. He said that he is usually quiet so no one understands his behaviour. He was doing his work and suddenly got up and attacked the other inmates. The matter is being inquired by the police.

Inspector Dharmendra Dhaiya at Sadar police station said, “A case of attempt to murder has been registered against Babu and we are trying to find out the cause of the fight”.
