“The NGO provides treatment and care for 21 elephants. The ECCC has open fields where the jumbos can go for their daily walks and trees for them to scratch themselves on. The facility is like the one they would live in if they were in their natural habitat. Water pools have also been provided to the elephants for baths. The ECCC is flanked by 215 acres of forest on one side and a river on the other side,” said Kartick Satyanarayan from Wildlife SOS.
Wildlife SOS started as the country’s first Elephant Conservation and Care Centre (ECCC) in 1998. The NGO also successfully brought an end to the 400-year-old practice of dancing bears in India and built a bear sanctuaries that houses over 628 bears.
